Humberger Family
Summer Update
I pray everyone is having a great summer! The Humberger household and the SEND ministry are having a terrific summer here in northeast Indiana. My boy, Caleb, is close to 16 months old and is ready to take over the world! My wife, Sam, and I have gotten to experience many things through the eyes of our child over the last few months. A few highlights: we've taken him to the Toledo Zoo, Noble County Fair, Fort Wayne Children Zoo, the circus, his first VBS, and his first rock concert at Life Bridge Church for their annual Cross and Dagger event. We thank the Lord for the freedoms and wonderful life experiences we have in this great country! On a quick note, I have to brag about my wife. She is training for a half marathon in Fort Wayne in September! She has done a couple of 5Ks and is up to 8 miles in her current training. She has even inspired me to get back into working out regularly, 5-6 days a week, mostly at the Y.
SEND: Getting the Word Out Since May, I have been all over northeast Indiana, promoting and sharing our ministry in what we call SEND Compass Events. These events are two-hour workshop presentations describing what we are doing. Our goal has been to connect with as many 20-year-old's as possible and share our mission with folks about a ministry that trains this Millennial Generation to become modern-day disciples and missionaries. We thank all of the great churches and pastors, along with the support of The Lutheran Foundation. It has been a great blessing to meet so many great brothers and sisters. I have been out in the world on a daily basis engaged in relational ministry - building relationships and sharing SEND everywhere I go. Thousands have heard me ask, "Do you know a 20-year-old who is looking to draw closer to God?" "Do you know someone not going to school who is looking for purpose and direction -one who might want to serve in ministry or is thinking about going to seminary?" After the first unit graduated last June, we have had much time to reflect and process. We thank the Lord for such a great first year. We have done all we can in getting the word out in terms of recruiting, and have just recently had a really nice newspaper article written on the ministry. Please check it out and share it with someone. Thank you to:The Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, Indiana!
Living Hebrews 11:1 Sadly, this might be the last time you hear from me. I found out this week that I may not be getting a paycheck next week. Our ministry, like hundreds of para-church ministries all over the world, is hurting financially. Money has dried up and we are being tested. With only three young adults signed up to start SEND this fall, the ministry cannot sustain itself. I now have to raise my support in order for us to go ahead with our launch the first week in October. Please pray for us. I am ready to pour my life into these three courageous young adults and do another year of this fantastic discipleship training. I will continue recruiting for the next few weeks to see if there are any others who are ready to join the unit. If there is any way possible to help us financially and keep us afloat, that would be such a blessing. To make a donation, click on the "Make a Donation" button to the left or send a check in care of Church Doctor Ministries and send it to 1230 U.S. Highway Six, Corunna, Indiana 46730 and put "SEND Leadership" in the memo line. After the success of our first year, I can't imagine not doing a second. However, if we don't, then this ministry was all about those five last year: Ashley, Elizabeth, Tim, Nick, and Raymond - The God Squad. What they learned and are now doing in the world will be forever priceless for His Kingdom here on earth. I am humbled and filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve this last year. Thank you to Dr. Kent Hunter for giving me a chance and taking a risk on trying to launch a movement. Thank you to all who have supported SEND. I pray you have been touched and can see what happens when we are Servants Equipping New Disciples. Until next time, We give thanks and praise to our Lord and give thanks again to you! "As the Father has sent me, so I SEND you." John 20:21. |
